The Jane Austen Book Club

Lord! What an eye roller! I had to finish. I suppose the character I most related to was Allegra. She seemed to be such a strong and opinionated young woman, but in the end went back to a lover that she didn't trust. Why would she have been happy with that?

the business with Jocelyn hanging out with a fellow so many years her junior just didn't strike me correctly either. I just wasn't rooting for any of the women. The characters didn't seem warm at all. Sylvia's husband came crawling back at the end. She remarked that the only reason he was in her presence was because no one else would have him. It disgusted her even though throughout her life she loved him. She spent 31 years being ridiculously happy. She was stoic so he didn't know how happy she was. That could be me as well.
